Hiltons of London: Doubletree by Hilton Tower Hill

I have stayed at the Doubletree by Hilton Tower Hill twice. Overall, it is my favourite hotel in London!

The wall of the Executive room displayed a shadow of the London Eye.
On my first stay, I was given a free upgrade to an Executive room, and the second time I stayed in a standard room (tip: Friday and Saturday check-ins are the worst for getting free upgrades).  However, both of the rooms were good. The only difference I noticed was that the Executive rooms have nicer décor, contained robes and slippers, and had a large TV.  The standard rooms have an iMac and no TV.  Apparently, Doubletree hotels in London are phasing out this hardware and going back to regular televisions. This hotel has started that transition by replacing them in the executive rooms and suites.

The breakfast buffet is quite large, with lots of variety, and you can also order eggs made any way you’d like (including great omelets, but you must ask for “no salt” if you don’t want a salty one – yuck!). The best time to enjoy the buffet and service is right when it opens, otherwise service can suffer, as the limited staff begin rushing around trying to accommodate a large amount of people.

Don't worry, it's just mousse.

The executive lounge is free for Hilton Hhonors Diamond members. It was a pleasant environment, good for working during the day, and in the evening offers some gourmet appetizers, beer, wine, coffee, tea, and bottled water. The food is good, although vegetarian options are limited.  The desserts are delicious. It’s enjoyable, but service there is inconsistent – sometimes it’s fantastic, and sometimes it’s non-existent.

As a Hilton Hhonors Diamond member, housekeeping also brought me 2 free bottles of water every day… very convenient!  Also, as a Diamond member, I received a coupon for free drinks in the SkyLounge, which is a rooftop restaurant and bar with a great view and overpriced, mediocre food and drinks.  If you complain about issues, they give you a coupon for a free drink in the SkyLounge – but house beer and wine only.

Unfortunately, there is a large amount of construction around this area, so it’s difficult (and expensive) to get around via taxi or car. Starting in October 2016, Tower Bridge will be closed, so getting around in this area will be even worse. I would be happy to stay here again, but not until after December 2016, when most of the road construction and the nearby bridge closing should be complete.
