My Holidays at Holiday Inn Club Vacations Desert Inn Resort Las Vegas

I have stayed several weeks in several different units at the Holiday Inn Club Vacations Desert Inn Resort in Las Vegas over the past few years.  It is a Las Vegas IHG property (along with Staybridge Suites and The Palazzo).

I frequently choose this property when I can get a good price. It’s 2 blocks east of Las Vegas Blvd (the Strip), and when the weather is pleasant, casinos are walkable. There is also a free shuttle, and taking inexpensive taxis or Uber rides is easy.

This resort is a refurbished apartment complex with 3 types of units: 1-bedroom suite, 1-bedroom deluxe suite, 2-bedroom deluxe suite.  The smallest suite is a bit cramped, and the deluxe units are much more livable if you’re staying more than a few days.

All suites include:

  • Full kitchen
  • Dining table
  • Living room with HDTV and electronic fireplace
  • Separate bedroom with door to living room
  • Large closet or closet with built-in shelves
  • Large bathtub
  • Laundry room with full-sized washer & dryer
  • Balcony

There are 3 floors, and there is no elevator. I always request a 3rd floor unit for the most privacy and least noise.

For the least amount of noise, I like the inside units in the back, facing away from the pool – Buildings 18 and 19. The view is of a large Preview Center and service center, but it’s quiet.

Internal-facing View from Building 18 or 19 – my favorites
External-facing North View – I experienced lots of construction noise across the way

There are a couple of gyms on the property. They are sufficient. There are 5 pools, but they are usually filled with families.

When I stay at this hotel, sometimes I take Uber to/from Whole Foods.  Other times, or to supplement that trip, I order online groceries from Vons.com.  Their delivery service is a bit unreliable, but good enough for me to enjoy groceries showing up at my door now and then. The resort has an on-site store, but its selection is very limited, especially for a healthy vegetarian (for example, they only carry “meat” pasta sauce and meat- or cheese-based frozen meals).

I can’t talk about my time at this property until I share the story of how I broke a stove. I accidentally turned on the wrong burner, which had an empty pot on it! The hot metal of the pan melted through the stove.  I called downstairs to tell them what I had done. 30 minutes later, 2 maintenance men took out the old stove and replaced it with a new one.   Despite having to carry those stoves up and down stairs in 110 degree heat outside, they were even pleasant and laughing.  I sure appreciate how nice and easy that was!

Overall, I enjoy this property and will likely stay again.
